After a few surveys and consultations with our village chief work has progressed speedily on building a small dam directly opposite the main gate to the farm.
On all accounts, by expert diviners and Feng Shui practitioners, this water feature elevates the farms good fortune and all who stay with us with blessings bestowed when entering and leaving the farm by way of the main entrance!
It will take several months to settle and we will landscape the banks with trees and shrubs plus retaining Korean Velvet Grass as promoted by HRH our King. Have at look at the these two snaps and I hope to post the completed project in about 6 months time for the enjoyment of all and by which time we will have water, water everywhere….and every drop to drink!

It’s that time of the year after the hot season, in June at the start of the rains that our ‘Mob’ of Guineas start to lay their eggs!...but where? We mainly find their nests when we cut the grass and hope that we have found them before their shells are penetrated by too much rain. Guineas are not the most careful parents and often after laying their eggs will wander-off to find their favourite insect and forget completely about their unhatched youngsters! So we have to try and find their nest in a hurry.
The first nest of the season consisted of 24 eggs all now safely in incubators for the 28 day incubation period. We have to be extremely careful of the temperature and humidity levels to ensure successful hatching but the excitement in watching the baby keets peck their way out of their shells into the big wide world of Thung Dong Farm is a wonder to behold!

Ken and family, our intrepid guests from Singapore, took to the early morning skies over Doi Saket in an amazingly coloured Hot Air Balloon during their stay with us at the farm. A perfect flight followed by a champagne breakfast and an awful lot of hot air!

Here’s young Nok (Thai for Bird!) A Brown Hawk Owl (or could possibly be A Brown Fish Owl!) who ended up in the pasture near the lake after the strong winds that we had experienced over the past few days obviously exhausted him! He was unable to take-off again but was quite unperturbed when I found him. Careful of that sharp beak and those lethal talons he happily perched on a wooden farm sign. By the look on his face it seems that he is already the Boss!
He’s now recovering in a cosy cage and being fed on (supermarket!) chicken. We’ll take care of him until he reaches adulthood and then release him back to the jungle. I was going to say that it would be nice if he hung around the farm but on second thoughts with all our baby chickens and Guinea Fowl and even Oscar the cat, Nok is unquestionably better off being reunited with the birds!

It’s that time of the year, hot, dry and no rain, that our vegetable patch comes into it’s own! It just loves this weather and our selection of fresh, organic vegetables flourish! Don’t worry we don’t serve salad with everything…..well not quite!

I thought that it would be a good idea for the folks who help us out on the farm to have some kind of uniform. I considered traditional Thai attire (like I saw when I met some guests at a smart hotel in town last week!) but then I said to myself we are just a farm and not a resort or 5 star hotel so what better for us than T-shirt and jeans?
So here's the finished product (Modelled by Khun Nack!) What do you think? I do love farming!

More and more young families are coming to stay with us on the farm and so we thought it about time we we made our really young guests feel more at home! So with great trepidation I set-off for the baby shop in town and came away with a very nice cot and baby bedclothes (plus a baby toilet seat and some flat diapers (?) for which the lady in the shop told me are to line the cot!?). She asked me how old were my kids! I told her that I have several every month! I didn't realise at the time why she seemed so surprised! So now our youngest guests have a bed of their own. Sweet dreams!
