WiFi Comes to the farm!
A broadband connection has at last become available to our village. So we have run a cable to the farm and we can now enjoy easy access from The Farm House and outbuildings.
Some guests ask if we have WiFi as they need to keep in immediate contact with their work, submit reports etc. and previously the only way was a Thai SIM card for their mobile or a very, very slow dongle for their computer!
However, if you are like the majority of our guests who come and stay with us to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world then let’s just ignore this Blog!!

Although a little past Autumn I couldn't resist posting this tranquil snap of some young guests enjoying some time in the boat, on the lake on a lazy afternoon amidst the changing colours of the season. One for the album I think!

New Arrivals include 8 baby Geese but these two were rejected by their mother so they are staying with me in a cardboard box at the side of my bed for about ten days until they are a little bigger and can join the rest of the 'gaggle' which now numbers 18!
Then a little runt of a mountain pig! He is so cute and about half the size of his bothers and sisters...we call him 'Titch'....and he is on a special high protein diet plus lots of mothers milk and lots of hugs!!

Since I was small I had always wanted a dog but circumstances never allowed such an opportunity but I promised myself that if I did ever have such a companion I would call him ‘Bongo’ a name that I had read in a kids adventure book! So a few years after acquiring the land and working hard to make it habitable and transform it into the farm I decided then was the time. Ideally I wanted a pedigree Golden Labrador but after searching throughout Thailand I almost gave up hope.
Then one day Nack called me and said that he had found the perfect litter in the dog market in Chiang Mai. So I rushed into town as they were all about to be shipped down to some uncertain future in Bangkok. I would have bought them all if I could!
Our boy was easy to select as all I did was to call out ‘Bongo’ and he came running, falling over his legs as he did so! As a puppy he was the cutest I had ever seen and he had a pedigree and we all knew immediately that we could never part with him. That all happened just over 9 years ago and Bongo celebrated his birthday this 7th March. (Dang the cow is just a few months older). Bongo has since sired 37 of his own pups. Thung Dong is the only home he has ever known and Bongo makes our farm complete! I hope that you enjoy this gallery of our Bongo’s Story! Ae

We welcomed a group of Moms, Dads and children from China to the farm to celebrate The Chinese New Year! We thought that this was quite an honour and we all enjoyed ourselves swapping recipes and seeing in the year of The Sheep! The farm was quite an appropriate venue when you think about it…although we don’t have any sheep….yet!

So as mentioned in the earlier Blog our little Jeep has come of age with big chunky tyres, sturdy crash-bar and spotlights to help us find our way back to the farm on dark nights! A tough and very versatile little conveyance and a great asset to the farm!

All the blogs at the moment seem to be about the animals that stay on the farm with us! But how could we let slip the wonderful news that Nouy delivered 3 days ago on the 11th February at 2.00 pm. So everyone took an extended lunch break to witness the arrival of Noah jnr!....and to everyone’s surprise he’s not pink like his parents but a light brown with white socks! He has big floppy ears and gangly legs! Within 10 minutes of being born he was standing and within 30 minutes had found the nearest mud pond! From the size of his feet and knees he will grow-up to be a big buffalo and have a long, happy life with us here on the farm….Noak’s Ark!

Happy Birthday, Dang!
Our Dang celebrated his 9th birthday yesterday. Dang translates to ‘Red’ in Thai because when he was born on the farm in 2006 he was a rich, deep-red colour. We think that his father must have come from fighting bull stock as Dang has wide shoulders all those tough 'I'm the boss' attributes! In cow years Dang is a sprightly 33 years old with a natural life expectancy of around 70 years old (20-25 human years). His mother, Dot, still graces the farm as well and we think that she must be in her mid 40’s now!
I was there when Dang was born and together with Khun Liam we are the only ones he actually allows to give him a birthday hug! However, that said Dang and Bongo grew up together and have a special bond…in fact our Dang is one very special cow!
Happy Birthday Dang...and many more to come!
