Life On Our Farm

Published on

Naak one of our two Pink Buffaloes gave birth to a healthy girl on the 19th January. Both mother and daughter are doing really well. Naamah is so cute and isn’t at all shy and Naak is just so proud to show off her baby! She will be so spoilt and have wonderful life with us here on Thung Dong!

We have enclosed their pen and put in plenty of fresh hay to keep them warm during these chilly winter nights. Now we just wait for Nouy to give birth in a few days time. We are sure that Noah, their father, would have been as proud and as thrilled as we are!
Welcome to the world Naamah!

We think that our Thung Dong Farm Jungle Honey is hard to beat!
…but the label which we made on the computer was a bit dull and didn’t do justice to the superb nectar contained therein..... so we decided to liven it up and give it a new look!
We can now offer farm jungle honey to our guest in 35 or 70 cl bottles and although we don’t think that we can better the taste we think that the label looks a lot more appetizing!

At very long last we are so happy to be able to tell you that we have finished The Sunset Room! (Well to be honest just some final touches to be made). It’s been a labour of love and frustration and we have come to the conclusion it is much easier to build from new rather than to convert!

But we are really happy with the result and hope that you like it too!

There’s the main bedroom and lounge; kitchenette, secluded bathroom; new Sala with 280 degree view of the farm; private garden; renovated sunset lounge for reading & relaxing and finally the long, wide verandah which is shared with The Bunk Room. So the whole annex is ideally suited for a family, the adults in The Sunset Room and the kids right next door in The Bunk Room!...or just a couple!

There are soothing views across the lower field and superb sunsets.

We do get excited when we think we have done well and we can’t wait to share with our guests!

We hope that you may have the opportunity to experience The Sunset Room during your Thung Dong Farm stay and in the meantime we promise to add those finishing touches!!

We  bought a little second-hand Suzuki 4 x 4 Jeep to tackle some of the rougher jobs in and around the farm. We refurbished her inside and out as being 11 years old she needed some TLC! Her engine and all of her moving parts were checked and componants replaced as necessary. Now she's in the very best of health and performing magnificently! We have yet to fix a front crash bar with some spotlights for the very dark winter months but just shows you that there is life after 11 years of age!

Just the latest snap of our Hero! No longer a puppy but a very handsome young man but retaining his foxy good looks! Hero has taken to staying in the village where he spent his very early days. You will often see him sleeping outside of our village store. But when Joy comes to the farm each morning she calls Hero and he trots beside Joy's motorbike because he knows that breakfast is about to be served. After a hearty meal he strolls back to the village. Then he visits for lunch and the same for supper!..each time having a quick play with the other dogs and then he's off to the village to sleep. So when you pass the village shop on your way to Thung Dong Farm Stay give Hero a whistle and he will follow you anywhere...so long as there's food in his bowl!

Instead of an array of different bath and hand towels we now have our own soft Thung Dong Farm towels for our valued guests. As we send all of the guest linen and towels into Chiang Mai to be laundered (on the farm we use water from mountain rivers which we pipe to the farm) and by standardizing the towels which we give to our guests it makes life a lot easier and less complicated. (That's what Joy says anyway!)
We hope that you like them for your next visit to Thung Dong Farm Stay!

Couldn't help but to post this snap! It looks as though Naak, our friendliest and most intelligent of pink buffaloes decided to take a 'selfie' and Jay, Joy's son, just happened to get in on the act! This is just a perfect snap to post even if Naak didn't really take it herself!

A belated announcement of the arrival of Brigitte's new baby calf...it's a girl! When she born she was very frail and we were not too sure if she would make it. But after a lot of TLC from Khun Liam and three weeks later she is in full health and bouncing around the fields with our other calf. We haven't named her yet but maybe 'Special' might be appropriate!
