Father & Son!....& Mother!
In far away Phrae and 40 Kms out of the town way up in the mountains along treacherous roads and bridging rivers across fallen tree trunks lies a small Hmong village forgotten by time. I have friends who live here working the fields on the side of the mountains to eke out a living. As a friend of their large family and being lucky enough to be able to help them when they needed it they insisted that I take two of their baby ‘Moo-Doi’, Thai Mountain Pigs as a gift.
Unable to refuse the little pigs were put in rice sacks for the long journey back to the farm. That was 8 years ago.
These were our first pigs and were called Alf and Maggie and they are still with us today and part of our family. They have grown enormously and have had so many offspring that we have lost count. Maggie used to come up into The Farm House when she was younger and would sleep in front of the T.V. but then she started to get very big and the floorboards started to crack and she was banned! Today Alf and Maggie are huge and look so ferocious but they are great big softies at heart! Scratch behind their ears or scrub their backs and they just close their eyes and grunt with delight!
Yesterday I took all the pigs for a walk over on the new land where there are a few swamps and where they can all take a mud bath. I took this snap of Alf and one of his new sons before we set-off and it bought back so many memories of two little pigs in a mountain village a long time ago and far, far away!
