The Guinea Eggs have arrived!
It’s that time of the year after the hot season, in June at the start of the rains that our ‘Mob’ of Guineas start to lay their eggs!...but where? We mainly find their nests when we cut the grass and hope that we have found them before their shells are penetrated by too much rain. Guineas are not the most careful parents and often after laying their eggs will wander-off to find their favourite insect and forget completely about their unhatched youngsters! So we have to try and find their nest in a hurry.
The first nest of the season consisted of 24 eggs all now safely in incubators for the 28 day incubation period. We have to be extremely careful of the temperature and humidity levels to ensure successful hatching but the excitement in watching the baby keets peck their way out of their shells into the big wide world of Thung Dong Farm is a wonder to behold!
