Life On Our Farm

A Taste of Honey!

3/4/2014

The pure, unadulterated honey that we collect from the jungle is the best that I have ever tasted and many of our Farm Stay guests agree. The flavour sways with the seasons and dependent on which blossom is in flower so the honey is mildly flavoured and the aroma is the fragrance of the jungle. Savor the taste and it will not be forgotten for a long while!

Recently bees had made The Farm House their ‘hive’ and had built a nest behind the wooden planking wall near the kitchen using a small hole in the wood behind the Elephant cabinet. However much I welcome these miracles of nature it all got a bit much and as I refuse to use repellant on them the only other alternative was to remove their nest. Quite hazardous to say the least!

We found six layers of honeycomb between the inner and outer walls which we collected. It was of a fine structure with a faint tang of seasoned wood.
The result was five litre bottles full of this superb honey. We will let it ripen and mature for several weeks and then enjoy genuine Farm House Honey!

We then extracted the pure honey by sieving through a fine meshed muslin cloth ..…and rescued the remaining Bees!

To keep the bees happy we have made and set-up five ‘hives’ around The Farm House and garden and look forward to an ample supply of pure ‘jungle’ honey right on our door-step!
So whenever you come to visit Thung Dong Farm be sure to ask us to put Farm House Honey in your coffee, yogurt, muesli....or just take a lick off the end of your finger!
